Friends, my children have finally reached the stage of human development every parent dreams of: they are really into games. I’m refreshing my memory on the best board games for kids in the 5-7 year age group. What are some favorites that you or your children grew up with? The more off the beaten path, the better.

The board games that I absolutely loved growing up: - Chess - Trouble - Guess Who? - Monopoly - Battleship The list is a lot bigger than this, but these help with counting, strategy, and are outright fun.

You’re speaking my language. We love playing board games. For that age range, I recommend Outfoxed and Dinosaur Escape Game if they like cooperative games, Ticket to Ride First Journey, Bugs in the Kitchen, Dr. Eureka if they like competitive games and No thank you Evil for story driven. We have tons, so if you need more recommendations (especially untraditional games you’ve never heard of), feel free to reach out.

So exciting! I can probably make lots more recommendations if I go look at our collection for a bit, but off the top of my head here are some of the hits from my house. There is a bit of an age range in these. - Forbidden Island/Desert/Sky - Dragon’s Breath (Haba has lots of games for younger kids) - Sleeping Queens (Gamewright has lots of great card games for kids) - Sushi Go - Codenames (there is a Pictures version that works better for younger kids) - Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza - Out Foxed - Sequence - No Thank You Evil! - Ticket to Ride - Poetry for Neanderthals - One Night Ultimate Werewolf - Silly Street

Board games, now I have to think back. I was obsessed with Chess, Connect 4, Guess Who, Battleships, Hungry Hippos. There was a game called Ghost Castle I loved, I remember Mouse Trap and Trouble. Monopoly and Scrabble were fun and Trivia Pursuit. Far to Advanced for me but I often played and adored Hero Quest which has made a come back at Hasbro. I just loved games with miniatures, be it characters or vehicles/buildings.

Need to try Amazing Labyrinth though could be best as they get slightly older. It was our favorite.

I suggest “Stuffed Fables” as a great experience to play with your kids. My kids have also enjoyed “Santorini” and “Sushi Go”

Candyland is a classic! I love playing that as a kid along with The Game of Life. Safe to say they inspired my love for videogames especially life simulation and games with branching narratives😁

Do you play board games with your children? Age of reason is 7, know right from wrong. Before age 7 children use fantasy, common to mix fantasy with reality. Before age 7, children will desire and have fun changing the rules, making up their own rules to games. It is the parents’ job to help the children understand reality and its effects on the child and the family. Careful to not shame, but validate: ‘oh, you want to be creative;’ you are having fun’. Take turns: one time play by the rules and one time their way. https://lnkd.in/e7JqC_HE

Did you know that games can help children better understand and manage their emotions? It’s true! Games provide a fun and safe way for kids to explore their feelings. Here are a few game suggestions to play with your kids: Emotion Charades: Act out emotions like happiness, sadness, or excitement, and have your child guess what you’re feeling. Feeling Bingo: Create bingo cards with different emotions, and as you call out emotions, your child can place a marker on the corresponding emotion on their card. Emotion Matching Game: Use flashcards with faces depicting various emotions and have your child match the emotion to a situation or feeling. These games not only make learning about emotions enjoyable but also foster emotional intelligence. Share your favorite emotional game or activity below! #EmotionGames#EmotionalIntelligence#FeelingsExploration#FunWithEmotions#KidsEmotions#EmotionLearning#ParentingGames#ChildhoodEmotions#EmotionCharades#FeelingBingo#EmotionMatchingGame

Teachers can engage students with phonemic awareness by playing odd one-out games. For example, you could show students pictures of three words and ask them to identify the picture that doesn’t rhyme with the other two #phonemicawareness #oddoneout #readinggames #literacyactivities #earlyliteracy #phonics #learningfun #engagedstudents #teachertips #preschool #kindergarten #educationalinnovation360

One of the best things a dad can do with his kids: Play board games. There are so many benefits: → Slows every down for a bit. → Requires kids to think strategically. → Teaches kids how to handle wins & losses. → Creates opportunity for undistracted connection. → Unifies the whole family around a common objective. → Emphasizes long-term planning > short-term impulse. It’s wins all around! Dads, What is your favorite game to play with your kids? When can you create space to play it this week? #burnuntamed
