6mo Edited Dear LinkedIn network: Friends, ex-colleagues, acquaintances, business partners! TLDR: HIRE ME PLEASE! (Comms, Marketing, Production, Game Scouting roles) Now for the novella: I - like many others - have been laid off and am eager to hit the ground running in the industry again. It’s been rough to say the least. Mental health is currently in the bin and no, I don’t need therapy, I need a job. The lack of it put me in this position, that’s the only fix for it. Everyone loves stats, so here you go: - Applied for over 70 jobs - Got responses to around 20 of these - I’ve been through to the last stage with 3 of these - Received 1 offer so far that got rescinded - I’ve been applying for about 6 months now… SIX!!!!! Additionally: - I learned Ableton Live 11 to a basic level - Refreshed my Logic Pro skills - Started producing my own music - Learned about knives and knife sharpening (random I know 😃) - Got a JIRA certificate - Watched hours and hours of tutorials on game development - Have been a stay at home dad during school breaks and sickness - Did a LOT of extra house work - I gym 4-5 times a week - …and the list goes on I have been using the legendary Amir Satvat’s list, I’ve also signed up as a mentor to try and help others with the same or similar problems. (Feel free to reach out to me still. I’m always happy to help.) I’m using LinkedIn, Hitmarker | Gaming Jobs, Grackle HQ and Work With Indies to look for jobs and yes, I’ve also been applying for roles outside of the industry. I am not the guy who’d normally say this but I need HELP! I’m all out of ideas, will to cling onto my love for the industry and what’s worse, also running out of money to support my family… and FAST! Had enough of the doom-scrolling on these job sites and preparing for interviews and put HOURS into presentations and rewriting CVs and cover letters with literally nothing to show for it in the end. This is a unique situation we’re in. I’ve seen people being made redundant and then secure a job in 1 month… Good on them! But what about so many others who were looking for months already? I’ve had one where the recruitment process took me 1,5 months and I was getting very positive feedback throughout. EPIC layoffs happened and then suddenly I had to wait an additional week for the offer. Which in the end never came… To recruiters and hiring managers: Please have the time of redundancy much higher on your list as a deciding factor when hiring your next talent! At this level most of us out here have the experience, skills and passion plenty enough to do a fantastic job in our next role! The human element has never been more important to consider. So here’s my pitch: If you need a driven, friendly, fast-learner who always aims to do the best work he possibly can, please consider me as your next hire! Thanks for coming to my TED Talk. :) #opentowork#gamesjobs

Things I have done so far 👾 Navigating this market can be challenging especially if you are looking for a new job and it seems like nothing is moving. In my personal experience, I embraced the journey giving myself time to explore new things - it helped me balancing my long hours spent on LinkedIn, doing tasks, talking to recruiters and still, taking care of myself. My achievements and new hobbies below are just a positive reinforcement for everyone out there looking for work: - After completing my six weeks beginner pottery class, I realised that I love hand building pottery and continued doing it at home. It’s cheaper, but it’s fun and very rewarding. You can make everything you want, I started doing sculptures 🗿 - I painted more. instead of following any specific rule, I gave time to my inner child to just mess around with it. Abstract painting or random figures, it helped me to give name to my feelings and frustrations and it was fun. So no symmetries, no drawing prior applying colours, just vibes. 🎨 - I almost completed my JavaScript course on CodeAcademy, still pending the last few classes but we are getting there (free to use) 👾 - Started to use p5.js because I love creative coding and art, will post something soon (free to use) 👩🏻💻 - Started to create music with coding using Sonic Pi (free to use) 🎼 - Travelled every two months, just for a couple of days and gave myself a break form LinkedIn 🛫 - I started volunteering as cooking class host for Made in Hackney, the UK’s first fully vegan community cookery school. 👩🏻🍳 On top of that, sport has definetly a positive role on my wellbeing, nowdays. Anyway, I hope this list can motivate anyone who is struggling looking for a job and maybe give a little boost of positivity 🫧 Give yourself a break or two, and don’t be too hard on yourself! As a matter of fact, I am looking for a new role so hit me up for Content/Strategy roles if you are hiring . 📩

I was REJECTED for an internal position I had applied for, even though I was the top candidate. I later learnt the person hired was a friend of my boss. I got tired of office politics and started applying to other companies, and within 3 months I got a much better job. My old boss asked me to come back for the same promotion I missed out on. I told him “thanks but no thanks.” Lessons learned: 1. You can be the best candidate and still not get selected. 2. If you didn’t get the job, it was never meant for you. 3. You weren’t rejected, you were redirected. 4. “Your value does not decrease based upon someone’s inability to see your worth.” 5. Believe in yourself and keep trying, the right door will open for you. Source LinkedIn user

I’ve joined the LinkedIn top 7%, And a lot of it’s because of commenting. → I spend 1-2 hours a day commenting. → This can be 5-6x a week. My 5 top tips are: 1. Be early to comment 2. Tag the creator in your comment 3. Write comments with takeaways 4. Reply to comments on the same post 5. Don’t leave generic comments Comment well → Open opportunities Repost ♻ if you find this helpful. P.S. Who is your favourite commenter on LinkedIn?

Let’s talk about common LinkedIn Mistakes! ☕ Your profile headline doesn’t talk about your work title or the job you want to do. ☕ Your work history isn’t filled out - this means your accomplishments and job duties. ☕ Your skills aren’t listed - You don’t need all 50 filled out but your top 10 should be on there. ☕ Recommendations - You should have them. Request them from previous coworkers ☕ Profile picture - have one! You don’t need a professional picture in my opinion but see industry leaders in your industry and see the trend there. ☕ Open to work - If you’re out of a job, put this on. Not every recruiter has LinkedIn Recruiter and this is an easy way for them to find you. Until next time, Stay Caffeinated
