Record-Breaking WPT Prime Taiwan

In August, the TWD 35,000 (~$1,100) WPT Prime Taiwan Championship drew 1,666 entries and generated a TWD 51,389,500 (~$1,597,435) prize pool, setting records for both Taiwan and the WPT Prime series outside Las Vegas. Singapore’s Jereld Sam claimed victory, earning TWD 8,065,000 (~$250,231) and a $10,400 WPT World Championship seat.

Jereld Sam’s Journey to Success

Sam, 30, began playing poker at 20 during a home game. His competitive drive pushed him to study the game, and he has since achieved multiple tournament victories.

In 2023, Sam won the Poker Dream Waiwain Mystery Bounty, Asia Poker Tour Hanoi Billions Mystery Bounty, and HKPPA Premier League Main Event, with his WPT Prime victory marking a career milestone.

Family Support Makes It Worthwhile

Winning the WPT Prime Championship was particularly meaningful for Sam, as his previously skeptical mother watched his victory.

“Her big smile when I brought the trophy home made it all worth it,” Sam said.
